Homes for Calistogans
CAH is working with the Calistoga Planning Department staff to develop a Local Housing Preference policy that will improve our ability to ensure that our efforts to provide housing make life better for Calistoga families, not strangers. Fair Housing laws require that publicly supported projects be open to all, but under some circumstances, local preferences can be used. We were fortunate that 85% of the families who purchased homes in Saratoga Manor II already lived and/or worked in Calistoga. The new preference ordinance (modeled after ordinances that have been enacted in Yountville and St Helena) will improve the odds that we'll be helping our neighbors. The policy is in the drafting stage and should be enacted in late 2008 or early 2009.
